Welcome
to my Gallery, I am Random Man a British artist working
in the North West of England. I work under the name
Random Man to make digital images. This is because
it is a name I have used on the Web since I first
began a serious exploration of digital imaging. People
were first introduced to my images under the name
Random Man and so I feel I should continue to use
it for all my computer generated art.
My early
computer imagery was very much much what you would
expect of computer graphics however I had been producing
more abstract and conceptual work by traditional fine
art methods. I wanted to bring the ideas and thought
processe of the fine artist to the digital canvas.
An opportunity to move home some months ago gave me
the opening to persue this ambition and so this site
has been created.
The
computer is perhaps not yet been taken as a serious
art tool by the majority of the general public as
yet it is still often perceived as the domain of illustrators,
animators and graphic designers. This is a great shame
and I think owes much to the misguided belief of many
that the computer does the work so it can't be real
art and anyone can do it. Now where have we heard
that before?
I love
using my computer it is a wonderful tool for the contemporary
artist, it has a seemingly endless capacity for allowing
me to alter and control the formation of an image.
This introduces the need for new dicipline when working.
It is so tempting to experiment and play with new
ideas and techniques as one invents or discovers them,
one has to focus closely and exercise a great deal
of self control to produce finished meaningful images.
My hard drive is littered with half developed ideas
I hope to return to as soon as I have time.
If you
return to my pages frequently, and I hope you enjoy
my work enough to want to you will start to see certain
themes that recur time and again in my work, these
are ideas and concepts and the resultant work may
be visualy very different on completion. I wanted
an analogy here but somehow none of them quite work.
However consider this, art is a visual language and
so a message can be passed in many ways after all
"cat" and "moggy" are two very
different words but the message conveyed can be much
the same.
I very
much hope you enjoy your exploration of my work much
of it is offered in small limited edition print runs
often of around 50, these are printed by me on high
quality papers using the best inks for the job that
i was able to find. A great deal of care has been
taken by me to research the best materials I could
find to offer a quality product. If you like my work
please buy, it is not expensive considering the amount
of work involved and high standard of the materials
used and I need to sell it to finance making more
of it for you.
Enjoy
my site and come back again soon,
Random
